Fat Grafting (Fat Transfer) in Korea

fat grafting korea — editorial hero (Seoul Medical Insider)

Fat grafting (fat transfer) harvests your own fat by liposuction, purifies it, and reinjects it to add volume or smooth contours — common for the face (cheeks, temples, under-eyes), and also breasts or other areas. Because it uses your own tissue, results look natural, though some grafted fat is reabsorbed.

General information, not medical advice. Suitability, outcomes, and risks vary by individual — discuss your case with a board-certified surgeon. Seoul Medical Insider matches patients to accredited clinics and does not perform procedures.

How it works

Fat grafting moves your own fat to add volume. A typical sequence:

  1. Planning: donor area (e.g., abdomen/thighs), recipient area(s), and volume are chosen.
  2. Anesthesia: local + sedation, or general.
  3. Harvest: fat is gently removed by liposuction from the donor area.
  4. Processing: the fat is purified/filtered to keep healthy fat cells.
  5. Injection: the fat is reinjected in small amounts through tiny entry points, often slightly over-corrected to allow for absorption.

Part of the grafted fat reabsorbs; your surgeon plans for this.

Through Seoul Medical Insider patients pay no markup — accredited-clinic pricing is passed through transparently, and you get a written all-in quote before deciding.

What drives the price: harvest area plus recipient area(s), volume, whether combined with other procedures, anesthesia, and surgeon.

Who it is for

Considered for facial volume loss, hollow areas, or natural-looking augmentation using your own fat (vs. fillers or implants). It needs enough donor fat. A surgeon assesses donor sites, recipient areas, and goals.

Recovery

  • Week 1–2: swelling/bruising at both donor and recipient sites; garment for the donor area.
  • Weeks 3–6: swelling settles; some grafted fat is reabsorbed.
  • Months 1–6: final volume stabilizes once fat survival settles.

Some over-correction is planned for expected absorption. Timelines vary.

Risks & considerations

Possible risks include swelling, bruising, contour irregularity, partial fat reabsorption (a touch-up may be wanted), cysts or calcification, infection, or asymmetry. Your surgeon explains expected fat survival and risks. Accredited setting recommended.

Korea trip checklist

  • Discuss expected fat survival and whether a touch-up may be needed.
  • Confirm donor and recipient areas and a realistic volume.
  • Verify the surgeon’s credentials and that the operating clinic is accredited.
  • Confirm in writing who performs the surgery (avoid undisclosed substitution / "ghost surgery").
  • Get an itemised, all-in quote in writing (surgery, anesthesia, facility, aftercare).
  • Arrange medical interpretation and a clear post-op contact for questions back home.
  • Plan your stay for a follow-up before flying.
