Chin Surgery (Genioplasty) in Korea

Chin surgery balances the lower face by advancing, reducing, or reshaping the chin — via an implant or a "sliding genioplasty" (repositioning the chin bone). It is often combined with rhinoplasty or jaw contouring for overall profile harmony.

General information, not medical advice. Suitability, outcomes, and risks vary by individual — discuss your case with a board-certified surgeon. Seoul Medical Insider matches patients to accredited clinics and does not perform procedures.

How it works

Chin surgery is usually approached through an incision inside the lower lip (no external scar). Two main methods:

  1. Planning: the surgeon assesses profile balance and chooses implant vs. sliding genioplasty.
  2. Anesthesia: general anesthesia or IV sedation.
  3. Implant: a sized implant is placed over the chin bone to add projection; or
  4. Sliding genioplasty: the chin bone is cut and repositioned (forward/back, up/down, or narrowed) and fixed with a small plate and screws.
  5. Closing: the intraoral incision is sutured; tape/support and a soft diet follow.

Your surgeon recommends the method based on your anatomy and goals.

Through Seoul Medical Insider patients pay no markup — accredited-clinic pricing is passed through transparently, and you get a written all-in quote before deciding.

What drives the price: implant vs. sliding genioplasty (bone work costs more), whether combined with other procedures, anesthesia, and surgeon.

Who it is for

Considered for a recessed, protruding, long, or asymmetric chin, or to improve profile balance. The right method (implant vs. sliding genioplasty) depends on the underlying cause and goals.

Recovery

  • Week 1–2: swelling/bruising; soft diet for bone work; tape/support as directed.
  • Weeks 3–6: swelling settles; return to routine.
  • Months 2–6: final contour; bone heals (sliding genioplasty).

Sliding genioplasty (bone) recovers more slowly than an implant. Timelines vary.

Risks & considerations

Possible risks include swelling, infection, implant shifting/extrusion or gradual bone resorption under an implant, nerve-related lip/chin sensation changes, asymmetry, or a result needing adjustment. Your surgeon explains risks for the chosen method; accredited setting recommended.

  • Get an itemised, all-in quote in writing (surgery, anesthesia, facility, aftercare).
  • Arrange medical interpretation and a clear post-op contact for questions back home.
  • Plan stay for follow-up; longer for bone work.
