Facelift in Korea
"Facelift" spans a spectrum — from a full surgical lift (SMAS) for more advanced ageing, to mini/volume lifts for moderate laxity, to non-surgical thread lifts for early laxity. Each trades downtime for longevity differently. Korea offers experienced facial surgeons across this range.
| Procedure time | Thread ~30–60 min; full SMAS lift ~2–4 hours |
|---|---|
| Anesthesia | Local + sedation (thread/mini) up to general (full lift) |
| Hospital stay | Outpatient to a short overnight stay |
| Back to routine | A few days (thread) to ~2–3 weeks (full lift) |
| Final result | Settles over several months |

How it works
"Facelift" covers several techniques; the sequence depends on the approach:
- Planning: the surgeon assesses laxity and chooses thread, mini, or full SMAS lift.
- Anesthesia: local + sedation (thread/mini) up to general (full lift).
- Thread lift: dissolvable barbed sutures are passed under the skin and gently drawn to reposition tissue; or
- Surgical lift: incisions around the ears/hairline let the deeper SMAS layer and skin be lifted, repositioned, and trimmed, addressing the neck if needed.
- Closing: incisions are sutured (surgical) and a support dressing applied; sutures are removed per the surgeon.
Your surgeon matches the technique to your laxity and goals.
Cost · as of 2026
Through Seoul Medical Insider patients pay no markup — accredited-clinic pricing is passed through transparently, and you get a written all-in quote before deciding.
What drives the price: the approach (full vs. mini/volume vs. thread), extent (full face vs. lower-face/neck), anesthesia, and surgeon. A full SMAS lift sits well above a thread lift.

Who it is for
- Thread/mini: early-to-moderate laxity, shorter downtime, less permanent.
- Full SMAS lift: more advanced laxity/jowls, longer-lasting, more downtime.
A surgeon recommends the option after assessing skin quality, laxity, and goals.
Recovery
- Thread lift: a few days of swelling/tightness; back to most activity quickly.
- Mini lift: ~1–2 weeks for the bulk of bruising/swelling.
- Full lift: ~2–3 weeks for the bulk; final settling over months; sutures removed per surgeon.
Plan your stay around the chosen technique. Timelines vary by individual.
Risks & considerations
Risks vary by technique and may include swelling, bruising, hematoma, infection, temporary or (rarely) lasting nerve-related changes, asymmetry, scarring, or thread-related issues (palpability, migration). Your surgeon explains risks for the specific approach. Use accredited clinics and verified surgeons.
Korea trip checklist
- Match technique to your laxity and downtime tolerance with the surgeon.
- Verify the surgeon’s credentials and that the operating clinic is accredited.
- Confirm in writing who performs the surgery (avoid undisclosed substitution / "ghost surgery").
- Get an itemised, all-in quote in writing (surgery, anesthesia, facility, aftercare).
- Arrange medical interpretation and a clear post-op contact for questions back home.
- Plan stay for a swelling check + follow-up (longer for a full lift).
